Recently, I have become much less clever when it comes to gift-giving for my husband. (I don't care what they say, this woo-ing stuff is hard sometimes.) This year for Mackey's birthday, I asked our friend Alex Flower (at Acorn in Denver) to make Mackey a special cocktail recipe, just for him. I left the recipe up to Mrs. Flower, the cocktail expert, while I decided to make a display of the recipe with hand lettering.
The Mackey Saturday
- 1.25 oz Willet Bourbon
- 0.75 oz Cynar
- 0.75 oz Rare Wine Company Madeira Malmsey
- A dash of Xocolatl mole bitter man bitters.
Stir ingredients with ice until the outside of the glass frosts over. Strain over new ice. Twist a swath of orange the top, getting oil on top of the cocktail. Enjoy!
Have I mentioned how incredible Alex is? Not only did she expertly-create this personalized drink recipe, she also made a list of all of the specialty drink items I would need and reserved them for me at The Proper Pour. Needless to say, Mackey absolutely loved it. I also scored a couple of design books for him from Svper Ordinary Gallery. (I love helping this guy beef up his collection of design books.)
Go on, now. Enjoy "the Mackey Saturday". For a specialty drink recipe of your own, or for other inquiries, contact Alex Flower [at] Alex@denveracorn.com
